Do you remember when you were about 10 and you were always thinking of how fun it will be when you are 18 or 20?
Most of us did the “when I grow up” game. The things we would do when we actually became grown-ups.
Nobody knew how tiring, stressful and annoying it would be when you grow up. When lots of people were in secondary school, we used to think college was going to be fun and simple. We were not let on the secret of how stressful and annoying it would be.
In college, we were told getting up early for the class was supposed to prepare us for when you actually start working. Though who in their right mind wants to wake up by 7 am on a Friday morning.
Who wants to have classes on Sundays because the teacher canceled the actual day of the class. Apart from all these at 18 or 20, you have to start planning to get a job, for the independent ones how you will get your own apartment, how to get your own car, how to pay for said car, grocery bills, apartment rent ,hospital bills (hopefully you never get sick) and so many other things
A fellow blogger had a different perspective on the whole “growing up is a trap" scenario, she said,” those that still believe growing up is a trap are daydreamers because reality is a hard rock”.
That statement means we should not think of growing up as a trap because it didn’t go as we had planned it, all we can do is adapt to what we were thrown into.
Even this “trap” has its advantages. Thinking back all the things that make growing up a trap are the things that would help us when we are fully grown and have to take care of our families.
For instance, waking up early which everybody hates helps when you become a working parent. You would have to wake up really early because you have to wake you and your kids up, dress them and yourself and also make breakfast. All these have to be done early so that you don't get late to work and the kids don't get late school.
Some people believed that growing up means changing. It really doesn’t. When you grow up you can still do some of the things you used to do before.
So maybe growing up is a good thing after all. Growing up is an adventure that we get to go on and tell people about. Sometimes being a child gets boring and annoying.
After all, we are in a world where we are forced to grow up too soon. So grow up and whatever life throws your way make do. Always remember when life gives you lemons make lemonade.
